Roxy’s Favorite Songs #8 – The Shirelles

I have a varied music taste (thank god) so love it when people put up the music videos of their favourites. Gives me a chance to find stuff I haven’t heard before but might like.  Love the ’60s music style and if you can have 4 sexy girls as well, thumbs up. I really do fancy the 2nd girl to the left, hmm wonder if she is still good looking today…

Arguably the very first girl group (along with the Teen Queens and The Chantels).  A live performance of “Will You Love Me Tomorrow” by The Shirelles in 1964. Read more…

Roxy also has some other well worthy favourite songs to enjoy (8 favourite songs posted so far and am so looking forward to the rest.)

The Wonders ‘Dance with me tonight’, Beach Boys ‘Surfer Girl’, Rocky Burnett ‘Tired of toeing the line’ (this one is a must hear if you have somehow missed it), Walter Egan ‘Magnet and Steel’ (this one is slightly odd…), Marshall Crenshaw ‘Someday, Someway’, Tracey Ullman ‘They don’t know’ (one of my all-time favourite singers) and Vaya Con Dios ‘What’s a woman’

Old Camel commercial More doctors smoke camels…

1949 TV commercial from Camel cigarettes. I actually had a doctor who smoked more than two packs a day and was trying to get me to stop smoking while standing outside his clinic. Was quite a surreal conversation puffing away discussing how to stop smoking 🙂

Beatles Marlboro Cigarette Commercial

Beatles George Harrison and John Lennon mess around and proceed to advertise their cigarettes in the tv style of the 60s

Old Salem Cigarette commercial

Think I will start a new tradition and show some of the old TV commercials for cigarettes, there are so many and since I got most of them on my bookmark page I thought I share them with you all. It’s quite a fascinating look of  how we looked at cigarettes back then.

These Salem ciggies even comes with "Softened with fresh air."

My movie weekend is sorted

Oh boy, I so got my work cut out for me this weekend, got delivered home today a lovely set of DVDs to enjoy and I truly mean enjoy, some of the best and worst movies in a nice mix, my flatmate didn’t look to pleased but I will make her enjoy the awesomeness of these movies. Damn, I need to find myself a geeky girlfriend soon to enjoy these things with.  Any takers?

10674-largeThis one needs no introduction at all I think. Just such an inspiring movie. The biggest-budgeted movie ever produced at Germany’s UFA, Fritz Lang’s gargantuan Metropolis consumed resources that would have yielded upwards of 20 conventional features, more than half the studio’s entire annual production budget. And if it didn’t make a profit at the time — indeed, it nearly bankrupted the studio — the film added an indelible array of images and ideas to cinema, and has endured across the many decades since its release.

And Zsa Zsa Gabor in skimpy outfit                  Jack, jack, jack…. I just love this movie.
doesn’t sounds so bad in                                         This novel based movie was made for him.

Surprise me, not sure about this one.              The storyline is weak but it’s Cab!

Also remember that I did like this one as a kid but can’t remember that the Son of Kong looked so much like a doofus…

Remembered that I thought Donovan’s
Brain was excellent when I first saw it as a
15 year old, here’s hoping I wasn’t a lousy            This purchase is just because of
movie fan back then… :D                                          John Carradine, big fan….

Ok, this is probably my weakest purchase but couldn’t help it when I read the story ‘Olaf and his mother run a boarding house, and a white slavery ring. They also smuggle heroin to keep the addict girls happy, so they do not try and escape. A young couple move into the house, and the evil landlords take a liking to the female. Don’t mess with THIS Dwarf…!’ Am so a sucker f0r proper bad bad bad movies.

Laughed out loud when I found this review:

‘this film is weird, terrible acting, terrible music but lots of happy teddybears. worth watching as it is so odd it’s kinda entertaining.’

Lots of happy teddybears????? anyway,

Work and airline stewardess

Finally back home, after one week of mayhem. Am a travel agent and have been working my tail off trying to get people home. 14 hour shifts for this week has made me a tired tired man and all due to the lovely volcano in Iceland. It’s amazing how much we depend on air travel really, you only realise it when something like this happens.

Had 500 people stuck which we had to find alternative ways to get from point A to point B, talk about trains, automobiles and no planes.  Quite a feat, so many amazing people who in my company are big shot directors/vip who happily travelled with families on buses to get home, three weeks ago you wouldn’t have made them travel economy without them making remarks about that. Rich and arrogance took a backseat for once.

But finally today, the last person missing has arrived home and I have finally got home in a decent time to just chill.

Off to get a massage (a normal one, not a filthy one, you pervs) tomorrow since my back is completely wasted after this week of sitting and stressing in front of the computer. Will be ooooh sooo nice…

So for my own personal gratification, some lovely airline stewardess from when they looked really good, the lovely ’60s or ’70s, not quite sure…
