[tweetmeme source=”erotixx” only_single=false] Two blondes in the same era but oh such a different career, Mamie got stuck with some awful movie roles (Francis the Talking Mule) while Marilyn got some amazing parts.
Either way, I do like them both a lot and don’t know who to choose as a favourite so both of them on the same page can’t be all bad…
|MAMIE VAN DOREN||MARILYN MONROE|
|Mamie Van Doren (born February 6, 1931) is an American actress and sex symbol. On January 20, 1953, Van Doren signed a contract with Universal Studios. The studio had big plans for her, hoping she would bring the same kind of success that 20th Century Fox had with Marilyn Monroe, the reigning sex symbol of the era.Van Doren starred in several bad girl movies that later became cult films. She also appeared in some of the first movies to feature Rock & Roll music and became identified with this rebellious style, and made some rock records.
Many of Van Doren’s film roles showcased her ample curves, and her on screen wardrobe usually consisted of tight sweaters, low-cut blouses, form-fitting dresses, and daring (for the era) swimsuits. While she and other blonde bombshell contemporaries as Cleo Moore, Sheree North, Jayne Mansfield, and Diana Dors did not attain the same level of superstar status as Marilyn Monroe, Van Doren did become a very famous star and notable Hollywood sex symbol.
She is still alive and kicking, still doing photoshoots, check out the last picture of her now… damn…
|Marilyn Monroe (June 1, 1926 – August 5, 1962) was an American actress, singer, and model. After spending much of her childhood in foster homes, Monroe began a career as a model, which led to a film contract in 1946.The typecasting of Monroe’s “dumb blonde” persona limited her career prospects, so she broadened her range. She studied at the Actors Studio and formed Marilyn Monroe Productions. Her dramatic performance in Bus Stop was hailed by critics, and she won a Golden Globe Award for her performance in Some Like it Hot. The circumstances of her death, from an overdose of barbiturates, have been the subject of conjecture. Though officially classified as a “probable suicide”, the possibility of an accidental overdose, as well as the possibility of homicide, have not been ruled out. In 1999, Monroe was ranked as the sixth greatest female star of all time by the American Film Institute.
Amazing actress and bloody gorgeous…
|Mamie Van Doren||Marilyn Monroe|
|and this is Mamie Van Doren now, not bad at all….|

[tweetmeme source="erotixx" only_single=false] Diana Dors (23 October 1931 – 4 May 1984) was an English actress and sex symbol. She was born Diana Mary Fluck in Swindon, England.
They asked me to change my name. I suppose they were afraid that if my real name Diana Fluck was in lights and one of the lights blew…
Before she died, Dors apparently hid away what she claimed to be over £2million in banks across Europe. Eighteen months before her death, she gave her son Mark Dawson a sheet of paper, which she told him was a code that would reveal the whereabouts of the money.
Her widower, Alan Lake, supposedly had the key that would crack the code. But Lake committed suicide only five months after Dors died, leaving Dawson an apparently unsolvable code. Dawson, however, was determined to discover his late mother’s fortune. He sought out computer forensic specialists Inforenz, who recognised the encryption as the Vigenère cipher. Inforenz then used their own cryptography software to suggest a ten-letter decryption key, DMARYFLUCK (short for Diana Mary Fluck, Dors’s real name).
Although the company was then able to decode the entire message and link it to a bank statement found in some of Lake’s papers, the location of the money is still unknown.
Not a dumb blonde at all…

She came to fame in the early 1970s, after starring in a string of moderately successful women in prison films and blaxploitation films such as 1974’s Foxy Brown. Her career was revitalized in 1997 after her appearance in Quentin Tarantino’s film Jackie Brown. She is one of a few African American actresses to have received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress.
As this is one of the last posts for the Classic Icons, I do think she so deserves a top spot.
Me, sexy? I’m just plain ol’ beans and rice.
I like serious films, the moneymaking blockbusters that don’t make any kind of sense and John Carpenter films.
[tweetmeme source="erotixx" only_single=false] OK, my 2nd swede in my classic sex symbols blogathon, I introduce Anita Ekberg. She entered the Miss Malmö competition at her mother’s urging, leading to the Miss Sweden contest, which she won. She consequently went to the United States to compete for the Miss Universe title, despite not speaking English.
Although she did not win Miss Universe, as one of six finalists she did earn a starlet’s contract with Universal Studios, as was the rule at the time. In America, Ekberg met Howard Hughes, who at the time was producing films and wanted her to change her nose, teeth and name (Hughes said "Ekberg" was too difficult to pronounce). She refused to change her name, saying that if she became famous, people would learn to pronounce it, and if she didn’t become famous, it would not matter. LOVE THAT….
Federico Fellini gave Ekberg her greatest role in La Dolce Vita (1960), in which she played the unattainable "dream woman", La Dolce Vita was a sensational success, and Anita Ekberg’s uninhibited cavorting in Rome’s Trevi Fountain remains one of the most celebrated images in film history.
Words fail to explain what I feel for this woman so put your bib on and check out for yourself.
[tweetmeme source="erotixx" only_single=false] Veronica Lake was popular for playing hard-edged girls in deep trouble. Her trademark was her peek-a-boo hairstyle, featuring locks hanging over one eye. Her popular pinup accentuated her penetrating glance. In later years she said with pride, “I will have one of the cleanest obits of any actress. I never did cheesecake like Ann Sheridan or Betty Grable. I just used my hair.” She underscored her disinterest when she said, “I wasn’t a sex symbol. I was a sex zombie.”
[tweetmeme source="erotixx" only_single=false]Former model Maila Nurmi played the glamour "ghoul" Vampira who weekly wandered through a hallway of mist and cobwebs to greet her weekly viewers of "B" horror movies broadcast at 11:00 PM. Vampira sported a full bust, slim waist (17-inches), tight black dress, long black hair and plenty of bug-eyed viewers.
Some of her on-air antics included talking to Rollo her pet spider; and encouraging her fans to write for epitaphs instead of autographs.
Maybe not the vintage beauties I was gonna go for this week but I just can’t help myself… muhahahaha (btw that’s my evil laugh…)

[tweetmeme source="erotixx" only_single=false] Rita Hayworth (October 17, 1918 – May 14, 1987) was an American film actress and dancer who attained fame during the 1940s not only as one of the era’s top stars, but also as the era’s greatest sex symbol, most notably in Gilda (1946). She appeared in 61 films over 37 years and is listed as one of the American Film Institute’s Greatest Stars of All Time.
I so enjoy watching her movies especially check out her movies with Fred Astaire, dancing madness.

Most likely her most famous movie, Gilda….

Grace Patricia Kelly (November 12, 1929 – September 14, 1982) was an American actress and Princess consort of Monaco. In April 1956, Kelly married Rainier III, Prince of Monaco, and became styled as Her Serene Highness The Princess of Monaco, and was commonly referred to as Princess Grace. Film wise she is probably most famous for her roles in the Hitchcock movies Rear Window and To catch a thief.
But her sexiness lies so much in how elegant she looks, pure class through and through.
Ann-Margret Olsson (born April 28, 1941) is a Swedish-American actress, singer and dancer. She became famous for her starring roles in Bye, Bye Birdie, Viva Las Vegas, The Cincinnati Kid,Carnal Knowledge, and Tommy. Her later career includes character roles in Grumpy Old Men, Any Given Sunday, and The Break-Up. One of the leading blonde sex symbols of the ’50s, Jayne Mansfield’s platinum-blonde hair and dramatic hourglass figure helped her to draw publicity. Though Jayne claimed to have an IQ of 163, she was relegated to the role of ditzy blonde in her films and never had the chance to show her true self on film.
"I like being a pin-up girl. There’s nothing wrong with it."
"If you’re going to do something wrong, do it big, because the punishment is the same either way."
Check out her bathtub above, freaking hell…
"A forty-one inch bust and a lot of perseverance will get you more than a cup of coffee-a lot more. But most girls don’t know what to do with what they’ve got."
Hmm, Sophia Loren doesn’t look all to impressed does she…

My first and favourite old-time classic icon is Grace Kelly. I love her!
